Choosing Glasses Or Sunglasses For Exercise – Our Tips & Advice
If you wear glasses and you work out, it’s important to choose the right glasses for your exercise routine. Your glasses need to give you clear vision, stay in place, and hold up as you work toward your fitness goals. But how do you choose the right frames for your active lifestyle? Here are a few tips from Designer Optics.
-
Sunglasses Outdoors, Glasses At The Gym
First, you should consider getting two pairs of frames. Sunglasses are ideal for outdoor workouts. They protect your eyes from the sun and protect part of your face from harmful UV rays.
Indoors, of course, clear glasses are a better choice. Whether you’re working out at home or in the gym, you don’t want your vision to be obstructed by dark lenses.
Transitions lenses are an option if you don’t want to manage two pairs of glasses – they darken outdoors and lighten indoors, but are often quite a bit more expensive, so keep that in mind.
-
Find Lightweight Frames
You don’t want bulky, heavy frames to weigh your face down when you exercise. Heavy frames tend to shift a lot, particularly if you’re sweating. Go with metal, rimless, or lightweight plastic frames to make sure your glasses stay in place while you work out.
-
Prioritize Models With Rubber Nose Pads
Rubber nose pads tend to “stick” to your face better when you work out compared to glasses that have plain plastic nose pads. This means that the glasses will be less likely to slip and slide when you work out.
-
Look For Rubber Temple Tips Or Add Your Own
If you can find a pair of glasses with rubber temple tips, this can be very helpful for keeping your glasses in place while you work out. The rubber will grip behind your ears and help keep the frames from moving.
You can also buy your own rubber temple tips, which slide over your existing glasses. This may be a good option if you don’t want to buy new glasses, or you can’t find rubber tips on a pair of frames that you like.
-
Invest In A Glasses Strap
There are a lot of different glasses straps out there, and they all do the same basic thing – they attach to your glasses and hold them tightly around the back of your head.
If you sweat heavily when working out or participate in activities like cycling – where you could be in danger if your glasses fall off – having this extra line of defense to keep your glasses in place is a great idea.
