DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Costa Del Mar Fernandina 4007 Sunglasses bring coastal style and serious performance to a pilot frame designed for smaller faces. Named after the quaint Florida beach town, the Fernandina features a lightweight metal construction with a distinctive double-bridge design and rounded lenses that balance classic aviator lines with a more compact, modern silhouette. Durable acetate temples add a pop of color and all-day comfort, while premium 5-barrel hinges ensure smooth operation and lasting durability.

Costa 580 Lens Technology: Superior Clarity on the Water

The Fernandina comes equipped with Costa's patented 580 lens technology, available in both glass (580G) and polycarbonate (580P) options. This isn't standard polarization. Costa's 580 lenses filter out harsh yellow light at 580 nanometers and block harmful high-energy blue light, which enhances reds, greens, and blues for superior color contrast and definition. The result is sharper vision with less eye strain, whether you're on the water, driving, or spending long days outdoors. All lenses provide 100% UV protection and full polarization to eliminate reflected glare.

The 580G glass lenses deliver exceptional optical clarity and scratch resistance, while the 580P polycarbonate lenses offer lighter weight and superior impact resistance. Both feature Costa's C-Wall coating, which repels water, oil, and sweat for easy cleaning and fog reduction. Fully adjustable, nonslip nose pads customize the fit and help keep the frames secure during active use.

Designed for Smaller Faces, Built for Adventure

The Fernandina measures 57-15-132, making it one of Costa's best options for those with smaller or narrower face shapes who often struggle with oversized aviators. The unisex frame works equally well for men and women seeking a refined, coastal-inspired look that transitions from the boat to everyday wear. The frame is prescription-ready, so you can add your Rx and enjoy Costa's world-class optics with vision correction.

Available in ocean-inspired finishes including Shiny Rose Gold, Brushed Gold, Brushed Gunmetal, and Shiny Gold, the Fernandina pairs performance-driven features with versatile style. Whether you're fishing, kayaking, or simply soaking up the sun, these sunglasses deliver the clarity, comfort, and protection Costa has been known for since the late 1980s.

Fernandina sunglasses

I love the new sunglasses I purchased from DesignerOptics. They fit good, they have a nice weight to them and the glass is clear and clean. Costa Del Mar are the only way to go IMO. Shipping was slow, but that's typical at this point with covid and all the other mess.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Costa Del Mar Fernandina sunglasses prescription-ready?

Yes, the Costa Del Mar Fernandina 4007 sunglasses are prescription-ready. You can add prescription lenses to these frames, making them an excellent choice if you need vision correction while enjoying Costa's 580 lens technology and polarized protection. Our in-house optical lab can help you customize these frames with your prescription.

What is the difference between Costa 580G and 580P lenses?

Costa 580G lenses are made of glass and offer superior optical clarity and scratch resistance, while being 20% thinner and 22% lighter than average polarized glass. Costa 580P lenses are made of polycarbonate, making them more impact-resistant, lighter weight, and more durable for active sports. Both provide the same 580 color-enhancement technology, 100% UV protection, and full polarization with C-Wall scratch-resistant coating.

Are the Fernandina sunglasses good for small faces?

Yes, the Fernandina is specifically designed as a unisex frame for smaller faces. With a 57mm lens width and 15mm bridge, it's one of Costa's best-fitting aviator styles for those who find standard aviators too large. The adjustable nose pads allow you to further customize the fit for all-day comfort and security.

What does Costa 580 lens technology do?

Costa 580 lens technology filters out harsh yellow light at 580 nanometers and blocks high-energy blue light, which naturally enhances reds, greens, and blues for superior color contrast and definition. This patented technology reduces eye strain, enhances clarity (especially on the water), and provides 100% UV protection along with full polarization to eliminate glare.

Do Costa Fernandina sunglasses come with a case?

Yes, each pair of Costa Del Mar Fernandina sunglasses comes with a Costa case and cleaning cloth to protect, clean, and store your sunglasses. All Costa products sold by authorized retailers like Designer Optics are eligible for manufacturer warranties and guarantees.

What size are the Costa Fernandina 4007 sunglasses?

The Costa Fernandina 4007 measures 57-15-132, meaning a 57mm lens width, 15mm bridge width, and 132mm temple length. This is considered a small to medium fit, making it ideal for those with smaller or narrower faces who want an aviator-style frame that doesn't overwhelm their features.

Costa Del Mar Fernandina vs. Similar Small-Fit Sunglasses

If you're considering the Fernandina 4007, you might also be looking at other Costa frames designed for smaller faces or similar aviator-style options. Here's how the Fernandina stacks up against comparable alternatives in our catalog.

Fernandina vs. Costa Anaa 9053

The Costa Anaa is Costa's best-selling small-fit frame and a natural comparison point. While both are designed for smaller or narrower faces, the Anaa features a square shape with a 55mm lens width (versus the Fernandina's 57mm pilot shape). The Anaa's plastic construction makes it slightly lighter and more affordable ($159-$199.50), and it includes Hydrolite grip technology on the nose and temples for extra security during active use. However, if you prefer the classic, versatile look of an aviator frame, the Fernandina's metal construction and pilot silhouette offer more timeless styling that works equally well on the water or around town.

Fernandina vs. Costa Inlet 9042

The Costa Inlet is another small-fit option in Costa's women's lineup, offering 580 lens technology and prescription-ready frames. The Inlet's styling differs from the Fernandina's aviator aesthetic, and it's priced slightly higher ($199-$280). If you're drawn to the pilot frame shape specifically, the Fernandina offers that classic look at a more accessible price point while still delivering all the performance features Costa is known for.

Fernandina vs. Oakley Feedback 4079

For those comparing aviator options across brands, the Oakley Feedback is a popular women's aviator with a similar size and price range ($141.66-$286). Both frames are designed for smaller faces and offer premium lens technology. The key difference is the lens platform: Costa's 580 technology is specifically engineered for water sports and fishing, with superior color enhancement and glare reduction on reflective surfaces, while Oakley's lenses excel in different environments. If you spend significant time on the water or need the absolute best glare control, the Fernandina's 580 lenses give it the edge.

Bottom line: The Fernandina 4007 is your best choice if you want a classic aviator silhouette in a smaller fit, combined with Costa's industry-leading 580 lens technology for water sports and outdoor activities. Its metal construction, acetate temples, and ocean-inspired colorways deliver coastal style with serious performance credentials.
