DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Kate Spade MERIDA eyeglasses bring a modern take on the classic cat-eye shape with full-rim acetate construction that's built for everyday wear. Available in five distinctive finishes—from sleek black to rich havana tortoiseshell, soft beige, and vibrant green—these prescription-ready frames measure 54mm lens width, 19mm bridge, and 140mm temples, fitting most face shapes comfortably.

Cat-Eye Shape That Flatters

The MERIDA's gently upswept corners create a feminine silhouette that adds definition without going overboard. Cat-eye frames work especially well for round and oval faces, where the angular lines provide balance and draw attention upward. The full-rim design ensures your prescription lenses sit securely while the acetate construction keeps the frames light enough to wear from morning meetings to evening plans.

Acetate Construction You Can Count On

These frames are made from cellulose acetate, a plant-based material that outperforms standard plastic in every way. Acetate is naturally flexible, so the MERIDA frames resist snapping under pressure and adapt to your face shape over time. The material is also hypoallergenic—no irritation for sensitive skin—and lightweight enough that you'll forget you're wearing glasses. The colors are embedded into the acetate itself rather than painted on, so your frames won't fade or chip with daily use.

Kate Spade eyewear is known for balancing playful design with practical construction, and the MERIDA is no exception. The single-bridge design and smooth temple arms provide all-day comfort, while the full-rim structure accommodates single-vision, bifocal, and progressive prescription lenses. Whether you're updating your everyday frames or adding a second pair with personality, the MERIDA delivers reliable style that works.

Kate Spade Sunglass Purchase - Merida Eyeglasses, Beige

I had my eyes examined and the optometrist had this frames displayed. I tried them on, and fell in love with them. But, they were too expensive. I later found them on Design Optics website and placed my order. The frames were not in stock, and I was informed by Vikas, in customer service. Vikas has been great. Wonderful customer service skills and so responsive to any of my questions. I would DEFINITELY order from Design Optics again. And I LOVE my new glasses!!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Kate Spade MERIDA eyeglasses prescription-ready?

Yes, the Kate Spade MERIDA frames are fully prescription-ready and can accommodate single-vision, bifocal, and progressive lenses. The full-rim acetate construction provides a secure fit for prescription lenses of all types, and the 54mm lens width offers enough vertical height for progressive prescriptions.

What face shapes look best in Kate Spade MERIDA cat-eye frames?

Cat-eye frames like the MERIDA are particularly flattering for round and oval face shapes. The angular upswept corners add definition to softer features and create the appearance of higher cheekbones. Square faces can also wear cat-eyes successfully—the gentle curves of the MERIDA soften sharp jawlines.

What are the measurements of the Kate Spade MERIDA eyeglasses?

The MERIDA measures 54mm lens width, 19mm bridge width, and 140mm temple length. This is considered a standard to medium fit that works for most adult faces. The 54mm lens width provides good coverage without overwhelming smaller features.

Are acetate frames more durable than regular plastic?

Yes, acetate frames are significantly more durable than standard injection-molded plastic. Acetate is made from layered cellulose fibers that provide flexibility and strength, allowing the frames to bend without breaking. The material is also hypoallergenic and lightweight, making it ideal for all-day wear.

Are Kate Spade eyeglasses comfortable for all-day wear?

Yes, Kate Spade frames are designed with balanced weight distribution and smooth surfaces that make them comfortable for extended wear. The acetate material is lightweight, and the molded nose pads eliminate pressure points that can cause discomfort or red marks on your nose.

What colors are available for the Kate Spade MERIDA?

The MERIDA is available in five color options: Black with grey lenses, Havana tortoiseshell with brown gradient, Green with green shaded lenses, and two Beige variations with brown gradient. Each color features embedded pigments that won't fade over time, a key advantage of acetate construction.

Kate Spade MERIDA vs. Other Kate Spade Cat-Eye Frames

If you're drawn to the MERIDA's cat-eye shape, you might also be considering other frames in Kate Spade's collection. Here's how the MERIDA compares to similar styles in our catalog.

MERIDA vs. Atalina

Both the MERIDA and Atalina are cat-eye acetate frames with similar price ranges ($60-$96.92 for MERIDA vs. $55-$141.57 for Atalina). The choice between them comes down to specific design details and how each frame's proportions suit your face. Both offer multiple color options and the same reliable acetate construction Kate Spade is known for. The MERIDA's 54-19-140 measurements make it a standard fit, so compare sizing carefully if you're considering the Atalina.

MERIDA vs. Amelinda

The Amelinda represents a step up in Kate Spade's cat-eye lineup, with pricing from $96.36 to $201.95. If you're willing to invest more, the Amelinda may offer premium finishes or distinctive design elements. However, the MERIDA delivers the same acetate quality and cat-eye silhouette at a more accessible price point, making it the smarter choice if you want Kate Spade style without the premium.

MERIDA vs. Johnna

The Johnna sits in the middle at $110.86, offering another cat-eye option if you're looking to spend a bit more than the MERIDA but less than the Amelinda. The single price point suggests fewer color variations, so if you want more choice in finishes, the MERIDA's five color options give you more flexibility to match your style.

Our take: The MERIDA offers the best value in Kate Spade's cat-eye collection. You get the same acetate construction, prescription-ready full-rim design, and flattering cat-eye shape as higher-priced models, with five color options to choose from. Unless you're specifically drawn to design details in the Amelinda or Johnna, the MERIDA delivers everything you need at a price that makes sense.
