What Are Prism Glasses?

Prism glasses are specialized corrective eyewear intended to assist with vision problems in which both eyes are misaligning or failing to work together effectively, known as binocular vision disorders. Such issues can cause symptoms like double vision (diplopia), eye strain, difficulty reading and headaches among others.

Prism glasses get their name from how their lenses bend light so as to form images on both retinas in such a way as to align properly for more comfortable and efficient vision. Prism lenses use prism technology in this regard; prism refracting lenses refract light more efficiently to align retinas more closely, ultimately providing more comfortable vision overall.

Prism lenses are measured in diopters, which measure their ability to refract light or shift images. As more diopters increase, so too will their capacity for correcting issues associated with misalignment and providing correction for them.

Prism glasses may provide significant relief to individuals suffering from conditions like strabismus (when one or both eyes cross or misalign), convergence insufficiency (where both eyes struggle to focus on nearby objects), or other binocular vision disorders that cause each eye to perceive images differently. They may also serve as effective treatment against conditions that alter how each eye interprets images differently.

Prism glasses go beyond simply correcting clarity issues (such as nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism ). Instead they address specific alignment and focus issues between both eyes.

Before purchasing prism glasses, it is recommended that you consult with an eye care provider, such as an optometrist or ophthalmologist, in order to ascertain their suitability for you. A comprehensive eye exam may be necessary in order to diagnose binocular vision disorders and prescribe the necessary amount of prism. Feel free to reach out to our customer service team if you require more information on prism glasses.
