DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Flexon MELVILLE 600 Eyeglasses bring together professional half-rim styling and Flexon's revolutionary memory metal technology in a lightweight, prescription-ready frame built for daily wear. These men's eyeglasses feature a clean rectangular shape with a semi-rimless construction—metal frames the top half of each lens while a thin nylon cord secures the bottom, creating a refined look that shows more of your face than traditional full-rim frames.

Memory Metal That Bounces Back

Flexon's proprietary memory metal is a titanium-nickel alloy engineered to flex, bend, and return to its original shape. The same material NASA used for missile heat shields now lives in the bridge and temples of these frames, making them virtually indestructible for everyday use. Drop them, sit on them, twist them—the MELVILLE 600 springs back. Adjustable nose pads and straight temples fine-tune the fit, while the lightweight metal construction (stainless steel temples paired with memory metal components) keeps pressure off your nose and ears during all-day wear.

Half-Rim Design: Lighter, Cleaner, Smarter

The semi-rimless design cuts weight compared to full-rim frames while delivering better durability than rimless styles. You get a professional, understated look that works in the office or out, and the open bottom edge widens your field of vision. The rectangular shape adds definition to round or oval faces, and the 18mm bridge with saddle-style construction is a Flexon hallmark. Available in four finishes—Black Chrome, Brown, Gunmetal, and Navy—and two lens widths (53mm and 55mm), the MELVILLE 600 accommodates single-vision, progressive, and bifocal prescription lenses without issue.

These frames ship with a Flexon case and are prescription-ready. Whether you need durable eyeglasses that survive an active lifestyle or a lightweight metal frame that won't pinch after eight hours, the Flexon MELVILLE 600 delivers the flexibility, comfort, and longevity Flexon has been known for since 1988.

Product Quality

My Flexon eyeglass frames were all that I expected. They were authentic Flexon Melville 600 frames in the original Flexon gray hinged case. I ordered on 3/19/20, frames arrived 3/25/20 by 1st class mail ($3.85). Ordering on line was easy and smooth. My one compliant was that I couldn't reach a live person at their posted phone number, nor at their new number 1-717/412-0407. I even got a 10% "COVID-19" discount.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Flexon MELVILLE 600 frames compatible with progressive lenses?

Yes, the MELVILLE 600 is fully compatible with progressive, bifocal, and single-vision prescription lenses. The half-rim design provides enough vertical lens height to accommodate the progressive corridor, and the rectangular shape ensures adequate space for all three vision zones. The frames work well with most prescription strengths.

What is Flexon memory metal and how does it work?

Flexon memory metal is a titanium-nickel alloy (NiTiNOL) that was originally developed by NASA for missile heat shields. The material 'remembers' its original shape and automatically returns to it after being bent, twisted, or flexed. This technology is built into the bridge and temples of the MELVILLE 600, making the frames exceptionally durable and resistant to damage from drops or accidental bending.

How do half-rim frames compare to full-rim frames for durability?

Half-rim frames like the MELVILLE 600 are lighter than full-rim styles while being more durable than rimless frames. The top metal rim provides structural support and protects the lens edge, while the nylon cord along the bottom reduces weight. They're sturdy enough for daily wear but slightly more susceptible to lens damage than full-rim frames if dropped repeatedly.

What face shapes work best with the rectangular MELVILLE 600 frames?

The rectangular shape of the MELVILLE 600 works best for round or oval faces, as the angular lines add definition and balance to softer facial features. The half-rim design also shows more of your face than full-rim frames, creating a clean, professional look that doesn't overwhelm smaller or slimmer faces.

Are these frames lightweight enough for all-day wear?

Yes, the MELVILLE 600 is designed for all-day comfort. The half-rim construction reduces frame weight compared to full-rim styles, and the memory metal and stainless steel materials are both lightweight and hypoallergenic. Adjustable nose pads allow you to fine-tune the fit to minimize pressure points, making these frames comfortable for extended wear.

Do the Flexon MELVILLE 600 frames come with a warranty?

Yes, Flexon frames come with a standard one-year manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty covers manufacturing defects but does not cover damage from misuse or normal wear. All frames are 100% authentic and ship with a Flexon case.

Flexon MELVILLE 600 vs. Other 600 Series Frames

Choosing between Flexon's 600 series eyeglasses often comes down to frame style and fit preferences—all models share the same revolutionary memory metal technology that bends and returns to shape, but they serve different aesthetic and comfort needs.

The Flexon MELVILLE 600 stands out in the lineup for its half-rim construction, which makes it the lightest option in the 600 series. The semi-rimless design shows more of your face and delivers a professional, understated look that works equally well in business settings and casual wear. The rectangular shape with straight temples suits round or oval faces particularly well, and the reduced frame weight makes it ideal for all-day comfort. Available in 53mm and 55mm lens widths, it's the best choice if you prioritize a minimalist aesthetic and lightweight feel.

The Flexon EINSTEIN 600 offers a full-rim rectangular design with bowed temples that accommodate wider head sizes more comfortably. While heavier than the MELVILLE 600 due to its full-rim construction, it provides maximum lens protection and works well for round or oval faces. The bowed temples are the key differentiator—if standard straight temples feel tight, the EINSTEIN 600's design distributes pressure more evenly. It's available in 52mm and 54mm lens widths and costs slightly more ($109.54–$116.31).

The Flexon NATHANIEL 600 features a full-rim geometric shape that adds a modern edge to the classic 600 series design. At $116.31, it's priced the same as the MELVILLE 600 but offers a bolder, more visible frame presence. The full-rim construction makes it heavier but also more protective of the lens edges. It's the right choice if you want a statement frame with the same memory metal durability.

The Flexon LARSEN 600 shares the MELVILLE 600's philosophy of minimal temple detailing and clean lines, but in a different frame shape. Starting at $109.54, it's a slightly more affordable option with the same memory metal in the bridge and temples. The main difference is the overall frame geometry—the LARSEN 600 offers a classic shape that may suit different face proportions.

Our recommendation: If you want the lightest, most minimalist frame in the 600 series with a professional half-rim look, the MELVILLE 600 is your best choice. Its semi-rimless construction cuts weight without sacrificing durability, and the rectangular shape is universally flattering for round and oval faces. If you need bowed temples for a wider fit, consider the EINSTEIN 600. If you prefer a bolder, full-rim presence, the NATHANIEL 600 delivers the same memory metal technology in a more visible package.
