DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Costa Del Mar Tuna Alley Readers 7008 combines premium polarized sunglasses with integrated bifocal magnification—perfect for anglers who need sharp distance vision and close-up clarity for tying knots, reading maps, or checking electronics. Equipped with Costa's patented C-Mate technology, these performance fishing readers feature a seamless bifocal area in the lower lens with no visible line, available in three magnification powers: +1.50, +2.00, and +2.50.

Built on the legendary Tuna Alley frame—named after the famous 15-mile Bahamian sand strip where bluefin tuna migrate—these rectangular sunglasses feature Costa 580P polycarbonate lenses that block 100% UV rays, eliminate glare through full polarization, and enhance color by filtering harsh yellow light and harmful blue light. The durable nylon frame includes integral hinges, a patented ventilation system to reduce fogging, and Hydrolite rubber temple grips for all-day comfort on the water.

Available in Tortoise with Copper or Green Mirror lenses, and Matte Black with Blue Mirror lenses. Large fit (62mm lens width, 11mm bridge). Prescription-ready for custom Rx lenses. Whether you're spotting fish or reading fine print, the Tuna Alley Readers deliver the performance Costa is known for with the vision support serious anglers demand.

CDM-Tuna Alley Readers 7008

These are great sunglasses/readers. Great help for reducing eye strain in the outside bright sun. Since I now need readers these are wonderful when driving. The sunglasses lens helps reduce strain on eyes from the sun. While the readers let me see everything clearly w/out having to put readers over other sunglasses. So far so good, the quality is good, and they look nice. Glad I found them. Would recommend Try if need both like I do.
Thanks for your time!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Costa C-Mate technology and how does it work?

Costa C-Mate technology is a patented bifocal lens system that integrates reading magnification into the lower portion of the lens without any visible line separating the bifocal area. This allows you to see clearly at distance through the upper lens while having magnified close-up vision in the lower section—ideal for tying fishing knots, reading maps, or checking your phone without switching between sunglasses and reading glasses.

What magnification power should I choose for my Tuna Alley Readers?

The Tuna Alley Readers come in three powers: +1.50, +2.00, and +2.50. Choose the same strength as your current reading glasses. If you're unsure, +1.50 is suitable for early presbyopia (early 40s), +2.00 for moderate needs (mid-40s to 50s), and +2.50 for stronger magnification. When in doubt between two strengths, always choose the lower power to reduce eye strain during extended wear.

What is Costa 580P lens technology?

Costa 580P lenses are made from impact-resistant polycarbonate and feature multi-patented technology that goes beyond standard polarization. They block 100% of UV rays, eliminate glare from yellow light, filter harmful high-energy blue light to reduce haze, and boost reds and greens for enhanced color contrast and definition. The 580P lenses also include a scratch-resistant C-Wall coating and are lighter and more impact-resistant than glass.

Are the Costa Tuna Alley Readers good for all-day fishing?

Yes, the Tuna Alley Readers are specifically designed for all-day performance fishing. They feature a patented ventilation system to prevent fogging, Hydrolite rubber nose and temple pads that increase grip when wet, and a comfortable large fit. Customer reviews consistently mention wearing them all day on the water without eye irritation or discomfort, with the bifocal positioned perfectly for fishing tasks.

Can I get prescription lenses in the Tuna Alley Readers frame?

Yes, the Costa Tuna Alley Readers frame is prescription-ready and can accommodate custom prescription lenses. If you need vision correction for both distance and near vision beyond the standard C-Mate powers, you can order these frames with your specific prescription through Designer Optics' in-house optical lab.

What's the difference between Copper, Green Mirror, and Blue Mirror lenses?

Copper 580P lenses enhance contrast and are excellent for variable light conditions and inshore fishing. Green Mirror 580P lenses (10% light transmission) offer enhanced visual acuity for fishing flats, rivers, and streams with bright sun. Blue Mirror 580P lenses (10% light transmission) are designed for open water and offshore fishing in full sun, with maximum contrast and glare elimination on reflective surfaces.

Costa Tuna Alley Readers 7008 vs. Standard Tuna Alley 9009: Which Should You Choose?

Both models share the legendary Tuna Alley frame—named after the famous Bahamian bluefin tuna migration route—with the same durable nylon construction, patented ventilation system, and Costa 580P polarized lens technology. The key difference is the integrated C-Mate bifocal magnification.

Choose the Tuna Alley Readers 7008 if: You're over 40 and need reading glasses for close-up tasks. The seamless bifocal area in the lower lens lets you tie fishing knots, read maps, check your phone, or adjust electronics without switching glasses. Available in +1.50, +2.00, and +2.50 powers, these eliminate the frustration of juggling two pairs of glasses on the water. Customer reviews consistently praise the perfect bifocal positioning for fishing tasks and all-day comfort.

Choose the Standard Tuna Alley 9009 if: You don't need reading magnification or prefer to use separate readers only when necessary. The standard model offers unobstructed lenses for pure distance vision and comes in a wider variety of frame and lens color combinations. It's also available at a slightly lower price point.

The Bottom Line: If you find yourself reaching for reading glasses while fishing—whether to tie a fly, read a depth finder, or check a map—the Tuna Alley Readers 7008 will transform your experience. The C-Mate technology is seamless, with no visible line, and the bifocal area is positioned exactly where anglers need it. For serious fishermen who demand both performance optics and practical vision support, the Readers are worth the investment.
