DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Flexon E1137 eyeglasses combine practical engineering with clean, professional styling. Built around Flexon's proprietary memory metal technology—a titanium-nickel alloy originally developed for aerospace applications—these frames can flex, bend, and twist well beyond what conventional metal frames tolerate, then return to their original shape.

The full-rim rectangle design suits a wide range of face shapes, particularly round and oval faces where the angular lines add definition. The frame measures 55mm lens width, 18mm bridge, and 140mm temple length, fitting most adult men comfortably. What sets the E1137 apart is the attention to wearability: ribbed rubber temple sections provide grip without pressure, screwless spring hinges adjust to head width automatically, and the adjustable nose pads let you fine-tune the fit. Available in three colorways—matte black with blue temples, navy with grey temples, and gunmetal—the frame works equally well in professional and casual settings.

Flexon's memory metal sits in the temples, not the entire frame. The front rim uses stainless steel, which holds lenses securely and accepts solder joints for repairs—a practical advantage over pure titanium construction. The result is a frame that's lightweight (most of the weight comes from your lenses, not the frame), corrosion-resistant, and hypoallergenic. These frames are prescription-ready and compatible with single-vision, progressive, and high-index lenses.

Flexon launched this technology in 1988, and it remains the benchmark for flexible eyewear. The E1137 reflects decades of refinement: minimal adjustment needed out of the box, a design that doesn't call attention to itself, and the kind of durability that makes these a long-term investment rather than a disposable accessory.

Excellent product, pricing and customer service

My husband loves his Flexon frames from 2020, but they need to be replaced. As it is no longer available through our optometrist, I went on a search and found them at Designer Optics for less than half the price they had cost originally and they are brand new! Within a few days I had the replacement frames in time for my husband's Optometry exam and new prescription. In addition to the fast turnaround, customer service extended a 10% discount to me as I had messed up when I signed in and did not click the right button to be eligible for that discount. I emailed and they replied and applied the discount. Great product, great savings, great customer service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Flexon E1137 eyeglasses prescription-ready?

Yes, the Flexon E1137 frames are fully prescription-ready and compatible with single-vision, progressive, bifocal, and high-index lenses. The full-rim stainless steel front provides secure lens retention and works with most prescription types. The frame measures 55mm lens width, 18mm bridge, and 140mm temple length.

What is Flexon memory metal technology?

Flexon memory metal is a titanium-nickel alloy (similar to Nitinol) that can be flexed, bent, or twisted and return to its original shape. The E1137 features this memory metal in the temples, combined with a stainless steel front rim. This construction offers exceptional durability while remaining lightweight and hypoallergenic.

What face shapes work best with rectangle eyeglasses?

Rectangle frames like the Flexon E1137 work best for round, oval, and diamond face shapes, where the angular lines add definition and balance. The horizontal frame width helps visually broaden the face. Those with very long rectangular faces may prefer frames with more vertical depth to avoid emphasizing face length.

How durable are Flexon frames compared to regular titanium?

Flexon memory metal frames are among the most durable eyeglass materials available, comparable to pure titanium in strength but with superior flexibility. The memory metal can withstand significant bending and twisting without permanent deformation. The E1137's stainless steel rim also holds lenses securely and accepts repairs better than pure titanium.

Do Flexon E1137 frames come with a warranty?

Flexon frames typically come with a manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. The standard warranty period is 1-2 years from the date of purchase. The warranty covers manufacturing defects but does not cover damage from misuse, accidents, or normal wear and tear.

What makes the Flexon E1137 comfortable for all-day wear?

The E1137 features several comfort-focused design elements: ribbed rubber temple sections that provide grip without slipping, screwless spring hinges that automatically adjust to head width, adjustable nose pads for a custom fit, and lightweight memory metal construction. The frame requires minimal adjustment and distributes weight evenly.

Flexon E1137 vs. Similar Memory Metal Frames

The Flexon E1137 sits in Flexon's premium E-series lineup, competing directly with the Flexon E1042 and Flexon E1110. All three share the same core memory metal technology and build quality, with differences primarily in frame shape, sizing, and color options. The E1137's rectangle shape with 55-18-140 measurements makes it a versatile choice for most face shapes, while the ribbed rubber temple sections and screwless spring hinges add comfort features that justify the premium positioning.

For shoppers prioritizing value, the Flexon NATHANIEL 600 offers the same memory metal technology at $116.31—about $30 less than the E1137. The trade-off is fewer premium details and potentially simpler construction, though the core flexibility and durability remain. The 600-series frames are an excellent entry point into Flexon's memory metal technology without sacrificing the fundamental benefits.

The E1137 stands out for its combination of professional styling, all-day comfort features, and the proven durability of Flexon's memory metal. The three available colorways (black with blue temples, navy with grey, and gunmetal) offer more versatility than many competing models, and the full-rim construction ensures compatibility with a wide range of prescription lenses. If you need a frame that can handle daily wear, occasional abuse, and still look sharp in professional settings, the E1137 delivers on all fronts.
