DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Persol 3210S Sunglasses are part of Persol's Typewriter Evolution collection, a design series inspired by vintage typewriters. The round acetate frame incorporates subtle mechanical details: lined accents inside the temple tips and a precision-engineered metal bridge that reference the hardware of classic typing machines. The frame is handcrafted in Italy and features Persol's patented Meflecto flexible temple system.

Meflecto Temple System: Comfort That Adapts to You

The 3210S features Persol's patented Meflecto flexible temple system, a technology the brand pioneered in the 1930s and still manufactures today. Unlike standard rigid temples that can create pressure points, the Meflecto system uses a flexible steel core within the acetate arms that allows the temples to bend and conform to your head shape. This distributes pressure evenly and eliminates the discomfort that often comes with extended wear. The system stays secure without squeezing, making these sunglasses suitable for all-day use or long drives.

Handcrafted Italian Acetate & Crystal Lenses

Each frame is handcrafted in Italy from premium cellulose acetate—a lightweight, hypoallergenic material that's naturally derived and exceptionally durable. The round lenses measure 51mm or 54mm in width depending on the variant, making the 3210S particularly flattering for medium to larger faces or fuller cheeks. Available with green or polarized brown crystal lenses depending on the variant, the optics deliver the clarity Persol is known for. The frame is fully prescription-ready, accepting single vision, progressive, and polarized prescription lenses.

Understated Branding, Maximum Quality

The 3210S carries Persol's signature arrow on the temples, but the branding is minimal—only those familiar with the brand will recognize it at a glance. The thin temples and clean lines let the frame's proportions stand out. Measurements are 51mm or 54mm lens width, 21mm bridge, and 145mm temple length, with the metal bridge adding structural integrity and a touch of vintage character.

Available in black frame with green lenses (95/31) or classic Havana tortoise (24/31). The frame combines Italian acetate construction, Meflecto flexible temples, and crystal lenses in a round silhouette inspired by vintage typewriter design.

Persol 3210

Replaced 3019 and 55 lenses with 3210 and 51 lenses. The 3210 doesn’t give up much in eye protection and stays where placed on the nose bridge. More stylish too. Designer relatively fast given their posted holiday. Also, no USPS issues incurred here on the east coast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Persol 3210S sunglasses prescription-ready?

Yes, the Persol 3210S is fully compatible with prescription lenses. The frame accepts single vision, progressive (varifocal), and polarized prescription lenses. The acetate construction and full-rim design make it an excellent candidate for prescription lens installation, and many optical labs can fit custom lenses to your exact prescription.

What is the Meflecto system in Persol 3210S sunglasses?

The Meflecto system is Persol's patented flexible temple technology, first developed in the 1930s. It uses a flexible steel core inserted within the acetate temples that allows them to bend and adapt to your unique head shape. This eliminates pressure points and distributes force evenly, making the 3210S significantly more comfortable for extended wear compared to standard rigid frames.

What does 'Typewriter Evolution' mean for the Persol 3210S?

The Persol 3210S is part of the Typewriter Evolution collection, which pays homage to vintage typewriters through design details. The lined accents on the inside of the temple tips and the metal bridge detailing are inspired by the mechanical workings of typewriters. This collection emphasizes precision, attention to detail, and a vintage aesthetic that appeals to those who appreciate literary and industrial design heritage.

What size should I choose: 51mm or 54mm for the Persol 3210S?

The Persol 3210S comes in two lens widths: 51mm and 54mm. The 51mm size works best for smaller to average faces and narrower head widths, while the 54mm is better suited for medium to larger faces or those with fuller cheeks. Both sizes feature the same 21mm bridge and 145mm temple length. If you currently wear sunglasses in the 50-52mm range, choose the 51mm; if you typically wear 53-55mm frames, the 54mm will be more comfortable.

Are Persol 3210S lenses polarized?

Polarization depends on the specific variant you choose. The 24/57 Havana variant (54mm only) comes with polarized brown lenses, while the 95/31 Black and 24/31 Havana variants feature non-polarized green crystal lenses. All lenses provide 100% UV protection and are made from high-quality optical materials. If you need polarized lenses in other color combinations, you can order custom prescription polarized lenses.

How does the Persol 3210S compare to the iconic 649 or 714 models?

The 3210S offers a more modern, streamlined alternative to Persol's iconic 649 and 714 models. It features thinner temples, a cleaner round shape, and more minimal branding compared to the bolder 649. The 3210S is generally considered more universally flattering and easier to wear for those who find the 649/714 too bold or vintage-looking. All three models feature the Meflecto temple system and Italian acetate construction, but the 3210S has a contemporary aesthetic that appeals to a wider range of face shapes.

Persol 3210S vs Other Persol Round Frames

If you're drawn to the Persol 3210S, you're likely considering other round acetate frames from the Italian brand. Here's how the 3210S stacks up against comparable models in our collection.

Persol 3210S vs 3171S: Contemporary Round Styles

Both the 3210S and 3171S offer modern takes on round sunglasses with Italian acetate construction and prescription compatibility. The key difference is the 3210S's Typewriter Evolution heritage—the lined temple details and metal bridge accents give it a distinctive story and visual interest that the 3171S lacks. If you appreciate design with a narrative and want the Meflecto temple system for superior comfort, the 3210S is the stronger choice. The 3171S may appeal if you prefer a cleaner look without the typewriter-inspired details.

Persol 3210S vs 3059S: Premium vs Entry-Level

The 3059S offers a similar round aesthetic at a lower price point (starting at $181.50), making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. However, the 3210S justifies its higher price with the patented Meflecto flexible temple system, more refined construction details, and the Typewriter Evolution design story. If all-day comfort and premium features matter to you, the 3210S is worth the investment. Choose the 3059S if you want the Persol look and Italian quality but don't need the advanced temple technology.

Persol 3210S vs Folding 0714: Modern vs Iconic

The 714 is Persol's legendary folding model, famous for being worn by Marcello Mastroianni and featuring a unique folding mechanism. While both models include the Meflecto system, they serve different style preferences. The 714 has thicker temples, a bolder vintage presence, and instant recognition among eyewear enthusiasts. The 3210S offers a more contemporary, understated alternative with thinner temples and minimal branding. If you want a conversation piece with heritage cachet, choose the 714. If you prefer modern refinement and subtlety, the 3210S is your frame.

All three alternatives offer genuine Persol quality, but the 3210S occupies a sweet spot: more distinctive than the 3171S, more refined than the 3059S, and more contemporary than the 714. Its Typewriter Evolution details and Meflecto comfort make it ideal for buyers who want Italian craftsmanship with a unique design story.
