DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Oakley Wire Tap 2.0 Rx 5152 eyeglasses bring Oakley's performance DNA to everyday prescription eyewear. This half-rim rectangular frame combines an angular, sport-inspired design with premium titanium construction—delivering a lightweight feel that doesn't compromise on strength or style.

Premium Titanium Construction

Built from ultra-strong titanium, the Wire Tap 2.0 Rx offers exceptional durability at roughly half the weight of conventional metal frames. Titanium is hypoallergenic, corrosion-resistant, and maintains its shape over time, which means fewer adjustments and all-day comfort even during extended wear. The semi-rimless design keeps the profile clean and modern while the double-bridge architecture adds structural integrity and a distinctive look.

Oakley Performance Features

The Wire Tap 2.0 Rx integrates Oakley's signature Unobtainium earsocks—a proprietary rubber material that actually increases grip as you perspire. Whether you're moving between meetings or staying active, the frames stay securely in place. Adjustable silicone nosepads let you dial in a custom fit, and the sport-wrap-inspired temple design provides excellent retention without feeling tight.

These frames are fully prescription-ready and accommodate a wide range of prescriptions, including single vision, bifocals, and progressive lenses. Available in multiple finishes—Satin Black, Satin Light Steel, Satin Chrome, Pewter, and Brushed Grenache—and two lens widths (54mm and 56mm), the Wire Tap 2.0 Rx adapts to different face shapes and personal styles.

The 19mm bridge offers a slightly wider fit compared to Oakley's original Wire Tap, and the rectangular lens shape helps balance rounded facial features. This is a frame that works equally well in the office, outdoors, or anywhere in between—a go-anywhere design for those who value both function and a straightforward approach to style.

Very Dissatisfied

I ordered the prescription version of these glasses, and do not have a very strong prescription. However the glasses are fuzzy and I am not able to see clearly through them. I asked for help and Designer Optics is not interested in solving the problem. I am now stuck with an expensive pair of glasses I cannot use. I will never work with Designer Optics again, and will continue to use Zenni Optical since they work hard to make sure the customer is happy.

Excellent Job

Once again Designer Optics did an awesome job on my second pair of glasses. They are the best!

BEST GLASSES EVER OWNED

These are the only pair of progressive lens that I have owned in 5 years that I can actually wear all day and see everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Oakley Wire Tap 2.0 Rx 5152 hold progressive lenses?

Yes, the Wire Tap 2.0 Rx is designed to accommodate a full range of prescriptions, including progressive lenses. The rectangular lens shape and adequate vertical height make it suitable for single vision, bifocal, and progressive prescriptions. Many optical retailers confirm this frame works well with Oakley Authentic Digital lenses and other premium progressive options.

What is the difference between the Wire Tap 2.0 and the original Wire Tap?

The Wire Tap 2.0 has a slightly wider frame (128mm vs 126mm), a narrower lens (60mm vs 61mm), and a wider nose bridge (19mm vs 14mm). The 2.0 also features a more aggressive, sporty look with spring hinges, while the original had a more understated lifestyle design. The prescription version (Rx 5152) is constructed from titanium rather than C-5 alloy.

What makes titanium frames better than regular metal frames?

Titanium frames are approximately 40% lighter than standard steel frames while offering superior strength and durability. Titanium is hypoallergenic, corrosion-resistant, and holds its shape exceptionally well, requiring fewer adjustments over time. The material is also flexible enough to bend without breaking, making titanium frames ideal for long-term wear and active lifestyles.

What is Unobtainium and how does it work?

Unobtainium is Oakley's proprietary rubber material used on earsocks and nosepads. It's specifically designed to increase grip as perspiration levels rise, keeping your frames securely in place during physical activity or warm conditions. This no-slip technology is a signature feature found on Oakley's sport and performance eyewear.

What face shapes work best with the Wire Tap 2.0 Rx rectangular frames?

The rectangular frame shape of the Wire Tap 2.0 Rx works particularly well for balancing rounded face features. The angular design and semi-rimless construction create definition and structure, making these frames a good choice for round or oval face shapes. The frame is available in two sizes (54mm and 56mm lens width) to accommodate different face widths.

Are the Oakley Wire Tap 2.0 Rx frames suitable for active wear?

Yes, the Wire Tap 2.0 Rx is designed with a sport-wrap-inspired architecture and integrated Unobtainium earsocks that provide excellent retention during movement. The lightweight titanium construction and adjustable nosepads ensure comfort during extended wear, making these frames ideal for transitioning between office work and off-the-field activities. However, for high-impact sports, dedicated sports eyewear with additional protection is recommended.
