DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Fossil Archer Eyeglasses deliver classic rectangular styling in a full-rim acetate frame built for everyday wear. Available in Dark Havana tortoise and Wood Black finishes, these men's prescription eyeglasses combine Fossil's signature accessible style with practical durability.

Acetate Construction & Fit

The Archer is built from cellulose acetate, a plant-based material that's stronger and more flexible than standard injection-molded plastic. Acetate frames are hypoallergenic and hold their color well over time since the dye is integrated into the material itself, not painted on. The full-rim design works well for stronger prescriptions—the frame edge helps conceal lens thickness while providing a secure hold for your lenses.

With a 52mm lens width, 18mm bridge, and 140mm temples, the Archer fits most medium face widths. The single-bridge design and rectangular shape suit round or oval faces particularly well, adding structure without looking overly bold.

Prescription-Ready & Practical

These frames accept single-vision, progressive, and bifocal prescription lenses. The full-rim acetate construction provides the stability needed for accurate lens mounting and long-term wear. Fossil frames are manufactured by Safilo, a respected Italian eyewear group, and typically include a protective case and cleaning cloth.

"I've been wearing these frames for 2 years, this is my second pair... very durable, my last pair survived many accidents like dropping them, sleeping on them and sitting on them." — Amazon customer review

At this price point, the Fossil Archer offers solid build quality and a versatile look that works for office wear or casual settings. The acetate material is lightweight enough for all-day comfort but substantial enough to feel well-made.

Unfortunately frames broke at Costco lab.

I bought these plastic frames because their size and frame height for my high correction progressive Rx (so lenses wouldn't be too thick at edges, but progressive still has room to work. Unfortunately the lab for Costco broke them, a problem I've not had before with many, many other frames. Sadly, I have to eat the frame cost and look for a local source for something similar. I'm bummed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Fossil Archer eyeglasses be fitted with prescription lenses?

Yes, the Fossil Archer frames are fully prescription-ready and accept single-vision, progressive, and bifocal lenses. The full-rim acetate construction provides a secure hold for prescription lenses of various materials including standard plastic (CR-39), polycarbonate, and high-index options. These frames work well for mild to moderate prescriptions.

What is the frame size of the Fossil Archer eyeglasses?

The Fossil Archer measures 52mm lens width, 18mm bridge width, and 140mm temple length (52-18-140). This is considered a medium fit suitable for most adult male face widths. The rectangular lens shape measures approximately 30mm in height, providing adequate vertical space for progressive lenses.

How durable are acetate eyeglass frames like the Fossil Archer?

Acetate frames are highly durable and typically last 3-5 years with regular care. Acetate is stronger and more flexible than standard plastic, making it less prone to breakage. The material is also hypoallergenic and maintains its color well since the dye is integrated throughout rather than surface-coated. Proper care includes regular cleaning with a microfiber cloth and storing in a protective case.

Are Fossil eyeglasses good quality?

Fossil eyeglasses offer solid quality at an affordable price point. The frames are manufactured by Safilo USA and are made from premium acetate materials. Customer reviews consistently praise Fossil eyewear for durability, comfortable fit, and value for money, with many users noting their frames withstand daily wear and minor accidents well.

What face shapes work best with rectangular eyeglasses?

Rectangle frames like the Fossil Archer work best for round or oval face shapes, as the angular lines add definition and balance. They're also suitable for heart-shaped faces. Rectangle frames are among the most versatile eyeglass shapes and suit all but the squarest face shapes, making them a practical choice for most wearers.

How should I care for acetate eyeglass frames?

Clean acetate frames daily with a microfiber cloth, and wash weekly with mild soap and lukewarm water. Avoid harsh chemicals like acetone, rubbing alcohol, and strong perfumes, which can damage the acetate finish. Always store your glasses in a protective case when not in use, and have adjustments done by a professional to prevent stress on the frame.
