DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Cargo C5501 Eyeglasses deliver professional style and all-day comfort at an accessible price. These half-rim titanium frames feature a clean rectangular shape that works for both men and women, making them a versatile choice for work, home, or everyday wear.

Titanium Construction Built to Last

The C5501 frames are built from titanium, one of the most durable and lightweight materials in eyewear. Titanium resists corrosion from facial oils and perspiration, won't rust, and maintains its finish far longer than standard metal frames. It's also hypoallergenic, so these frames won't irritate sensitive skin. The half-rim design keeps weight to a minimum—you'll barely feel them on your face during long days at the computer or behind the wheel.

Spring hinges add flexibility and durability. The temples can flex outward without breaking, reducing pressure on your head and preventing frame damage if you accidentally sit on them or open them too wide. Adjustable silicone nose pads let you fine-tune the fit for maximum comfort and keep the frames securely in place.

Prescription-Ready for Any Lens Type

These frames are prescription-ready and compatible with single-vision, bifocal, and progressive lenses. The half-rim construction provides enough support for most prescriptions while maintaining a sleek, understated look. Available in three matte finishes—Dark Blue, Black, and Dark Grey—the C5501 adapts to your personal style. Select variants also include a polarized magnetic clip-on attachment, giving you instant sun protection without carrying a separate pair of sunglasses.

Manufactured by Aspex Eyewear, a company with over 50 years of experience in eyewear design and technology, Cargo frames blend practical engineering with contemporary style. The C5501 measures 52-19-140, fitting most adult face sizes comfortably. Whether you need reliable everyday glasses or a backup pair that won't break the bank, the Cargo C5501 offers solid construction and timeless design.

Not satisfied, would not recommend.

I emailed Designer Optics support with questions about a product that I wanted, but couldn’t find the color that I wanted. My email was very detailed and specific. Support sent me a link and assured me that the link would get me what I wanted. I ordered it and waited. Ultimately I received the product I didn’t want. I emailed the same person telling them that I got the wrong product. They sent me a return label. No “sorry for that’ no offer of expedited shipping. From the time I clicked the link they sent me to the time I got the correct product a month had gone by. Again, I took the time to try to avoid that by emailing before ordering. It was a waste of time and the month it took was just more time. When something like this happens, offer your customer expedited shipping, a discount on their next purchase, an apology, something.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Cargo C5501 eyeglasses compatible with progressive lenses?

Yes, the Cargo C5501 frames are fully compatible with progressive lenses. The half-rim design provides sufficient lens height to accommodate the progressive corridor, and the rectangular shape works well for multifocal prescriptions. These frames are prescription-ready for single-vision, bifocal, and progressive lenses.

What are the benefits of titanium frames like the Cargo C5501?

Titanium frames offer several key advantages: they're extremely lightweight (about half the weight of standard metal frames), hypoallergenic and won't irritate sensitive skin, highly resistant to corrosion from facial oils and perspiration, and exceptionally durable with superior tensile strength. The Cargo C5501 combines these benefits with an affordable price point.

Do these eyeglasses come with clip-on sunglasses?

Select variants of the Cargo C5501 include a polarized magnetic clip-on sunglass attachment. The clip-on options are designated with 'CLIP' in the variant name (090-CLIP, 050-CLIP, 020-CLIP). The standard frame variants (50, 90, 20) do not include the clip-on but can be purchased separately.

What is the advantage of spring hinges on eyeglasses?

Spring hinges allow the temples to flex outward beyond the standard 90-degree angle, providing a more comfortable fit and reducing pressure on your head. They also prevent frame breakage from overextension and help the glasses maintain their adjustment over time. This feature is especially valuable for active wearers or anyone who frequently takes their glasses on and off.

What size are the Cargo C5501 frames?

The Cargo C5501 measures 52-19-140, which means a 52mm lens width, 19mm bridge width, and 140mm temple length. This is considered a standard adult size that fits most face shapes comfortably. The rectangular half-rim design works particularly well for oval, round, and square face shapes.

Who manufactures Cargo eyeglasses?

Cargo eyeglasses are manufactured by Aspex Eyewear, a company founded in 1965 with over 50 years of experience in eyewear design and technological development. Aspex operates multiple eyewear brands and is recognized as an industry leader. Cargo frames come with a one-year manufacturer's warranty and include a matching case and cleaning cloth.

Cargo C5501 vs. Charmant Pure Titanium TI8145A vs. Flexon 606

Shopping for affordable, durable eyeglasses? The Cargo C5501 competes directly with two other popular options in the budget-to-mid-range titanium and flexible frame category.

Cargo C5501: Best Value with Clip-On Option

The Cargo C5501 stands out for its combination of titanium construction, spring hinges, and optional magnetic clip-on sunglasses—all at a starting price of just $52.99. The half-rim design keeps weight minimal while the spring hinges add flexibility and durability. If you want the versatility of switching between clear and sun lenses without carrying two pairs, the C5501's clip-on variants deliver exceptional value. The three matte finishes (Dark Blue, Black, Dark Grey) offer contemporary styling that works in professional and casual settings.

Charmant Pure Titanium TI8145A: Pure Titanium Specialist

The Charmant TI8145A ($98.75-$106.75) comes from a brand that specializes exclusively in pure titanium frames. You're paying slightly more for a name that's synonymous with titanium quality and precision Japanese manufacturing. The frames offer similar lightweight comfort and hypoallergenic properties, with a professional half-rim aesthetic. However, Charmant doesn't offer the magnetic clip-on option, so you'll need separate sunglasses. Choose Charmant if brand heritage and pure titanium certification are priorities.

Flexon 606: Memory Metal Flexibility

Flexon 606 frames ($96.62-$102.15) use proprietary memory metal technology that allows the frames to bend and return to their original shape—ideal if you're hard on your glasses or have kids who might grab them. While not pure titanium, Flexon's material is exceptionally durable and flexible. The trade-off? Flexon frames are typically full-rim (depending on model) and slightly heavier than half-rim titanium designs. No clip-on option is available. Choose Flexon if maximum flexibility and bend-resistance are your top concerns.

Our Recommendation

For most shoppers, the Cargo C5501 offers the best overall value. You get genuine titanium construction, spring hinges for added durability, and the option of magnetic clip-on sunglasses—all at the lowest price point. The half-rim design is lighter and more minimalist than full-rim alternatives. If you need pure titanium certification or have specific brand preferences, consider the Charmant. If you prioritize extreme flexibility over weight, the Flexon is worth the upgrade. But for everyday comfort, versatility, and budget-conscious quality, the Cargo C5501 is hard to beat.
