DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Carrera 4408 Eyeglasses bring together sport-inspired design and everyday versatility in a half-rim rectangular frame built for men who need reliable prescription eyewear. The stainless steel construction keeps weight down while delivering the durability Carrera has been known for since 1956, when the brand started making safety eyewear for athletes and racers.

Half-Rim Design That Shows More of Your Face

The semi-rimless structure features a metal frame along the top of each lens, with the lower portion held by a thin nylon cord. This reduces overall frame weight and creates a cleaner, more professional look than full-rim alternatives. Half-rim frames show more of your face and work well for rectangular lenses without adding bulk. The 19mm bridge and 140mm temples provide a secure fit, available in two lens widths: 54mm and 56mm.

Stainless Steel for Sensitive Skin

Stainless steel frames are hypoallergenic and avoid the nickel content that triggers reactions in many wearers. The material is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and flexible enough for daily adjustments at the nose pads. If you've had irritation from other metal frames, stainless steel is a safer choice. The frame comes in Black, Matte Black, and Matte Ruthenium finishes, with red accent details visible on the temples in some colorways.

These frames are prescription-ready and ship with demo lenses that your optician can replace with single-vision, bifocal, or progressive lenses. Carrera eyewear is manufactured by Safilo Group and includes a one-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects. Each pair ships with a branded case and cleaning cloth.

Carrera 4408 Eyeglasses

Love my new glasses!

I only have one complaint about the experience: your initial communication is poor. I received a confirmation email that you were processing my order the day after it was placed. But then a week went by and I still had no purchase receipt, order confirmation number, or any idea when my glasses would arrive. I emailed with my concern, and the issue was fixed the following day, but that's why I put 4 stars rather than 5.

Other than that, I was completely satisfied with my purchase and experience. Thanks!

Perfect as I expected

This was my 1st experience to order glasses frame on line and I’m very satisfied! Price is about 1/3 of the same product in store!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Carrera 4408 frames prescription-ready?

Yes, the Carrera 4408 eyeglasses are fully prescription-ready. The frames ship with demo lenses that can be replaced with your custom prescription lenses, including single-vision, bifocal, or progressive options. The stainless steel half-rim design accommodates most prescription strengths.

What sizes are available for the Carrera 4408?

The Carrera 4408 is available in two sizes: 54-19-140 and 56-19-140. The first number is the lens width in millimeters, the second is the bridge width (19mm for both), and the third is the temple length (140mm for both). Choose 54mm for smaller to medium faces, or 56mm for medium to larger faces.

Are stainless steel frames good for people with metal allergies?

Yes, stainless steel frames are hypoallergenic and an excellent choice for people with sensitive skin or metal allergies. Unlike some cheaper metal frames that contain nickel, stainless steel avoids common allergens and is less likely to cause skin irritation or reactions where the frame contacts your face.

What's the difference between half-rim and full-rim eyeglasses?

Half-rim (semi-rimless) frames like the Carrera 4408 have a frame only along the top of the lens, making them lighter and more refined than full-rim frames. They show more of your face and feel less heavy during all-day wear. Full-rim frames surround the entire lens and are more durable for active lifestyles or stronger prescriptions.

Does the Carrera 4408 come with a case?

Yes, the Carrera 4408 ships with a branded Carrera case and microfiber cleaning cloth. All authentic Carrera eyewear includes manufacturer packaging and accessories. The frames also carry a one-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.

What face shapes work best with rectangular half-rim frames?

Rectangular half-rim frames like the Carrera 4408 work well on round and oval face shapes, adding definition and balance. The clean lines and semi-rimless design create a modern, professional look that's versatile enough for both casual and business settings. The adjustable nose pads help customize the fit for different facial features.

Carrera 4408 vs Similar Frames: Which Is Right for You?

The Carrera 4408 sits in a competitive space within Carrera's men's eyewear collection. Here's how it compares to the closest alternatives in our catalog.

Carrera 4408 vs Carrera 4409: Half-Rim or Full-Rim?

The 4409 is essentially the full-rim sibling of the 4408. Both share the same rectangular shape, stainless steel construction, and color palette (Black, Matte Black, Matte Ruthenium). The key difference is frame coverage: the 4408's half-rim design makes it lighter and more refined, showing more of your face, while the 4409's full-rim structure offers better durability for active wear and stronger prescriptions. The 4409 also has a narrower bridge (17mm vs 19mm) and costs slightly less ($49–$103 vs $49–$133). Choose the 4408 if you want a professional, lightweight look for office or everyday wear. Pick the 4409 if you're harder on your glasses or prefer a bolder frame presence.

Carrera 4408 vs Carrera CA8821: Comparing Half-Rim Options

Both the 4408 and CA8821 are semi-rimless stainless steel frames with adjustable nose pads and a rectangular shape. The CA8821 is positioned at a higher price point ($103–$190) and may offer slightly different styling details or finish quality. If you're committed to the half-rim aesthetic and want to stay within the Carrera family, compare the specific dimensions and color options of each. The 4408 offers better value and more color choices, while the CA8821 may appeal if you prefer its specific design cues.

Why Choose the Carrera 4408?

The 4408 is the best choice if you want a lightweight, hypoallergenic half-rim frame that balances professional style with everyday comfort. Its stainless steel construction and semi-rimless design make it ideal for all-day wear without the bulk of full-rim frames. At $49–$133, it's competitively priced within the Carrera collection and offers excellent value for a prescription-ready designer frame.
