DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Costa Del Mar Turret 6009 sunglasses deliver what serious anglers and outdoor enthusiasts demand: featherweight titanium construction paired with Costa's legendary 580P polarized lens technology. At just 9.47 grams, the Turret is the lightest in Costa's metal frame lineup, yet its full-rim titanium build offers the strength and stability you need on the water.

Costa 580P Lens Technology: Built for the Water

Every Turret frame comes equipped with Costa's 580P polycarbonate lenses, a multipatented technology designed by in-house light spectrum experts. These lenses don't just block glare—they selectively filter harsh yellow light at 580 nanometers on the visible spectrum, allowing more reds, greens, and blues to reach your eyes. The result is enhanced color, sharper contrast, and better definition, whether you're tracking fish in shallow flats or navigating bright offshore conditions. All 580P lenses provide 100% UV protection and absorb high-energy visible (HEV) blue light linked to long-term eye damage.

The polycarbonate construction makes these lenses impact-resistant and lighter than glass, while Costa's C-Wall molecular bond coating adds scratch resistance and repels water, oil, and sweat. Blue mirror lenses excel in full-sun offshore environments, green mirror works for inshore and freshwater, gray silver mirror handles everyday wear, and gray lenses are the versatile all-around choice.

Titanium Frame Engineering

The rectangular frame is built from premium titanium—a material prized for being approximately 40% lighter than standard metal alloys while remaining incredibly strong and corrosion-resistant. Titanium won't rust from saltwater exposure, and it's hypoallergenic, making it ideal for those with sensitive skin or metal allergies. The medium-sized fit is designed for slightly narrow heads, with a small lens front that provides maximum coverage and wrap to reduce light leak.

Hydrolite temple tips are over-injected for a secure, no-slip grip that actually holds tighter as you sweat. Air-cushioned, fully adjustable nose pads let you customize the fit and help reduce fogging. Internal spring hinges add flex and durability. The low-profile design keeps the frames sleek and unobtrusive, and the narrow temples won't interfere with hats or helmets.

Prescription-Ready Performance

The Turret is prescription-compatible, accommodating prescriptions where sphere and cylinder combined do not exceed +3.00 to -5.00, with cylinder not exceeding -3.00. This makes them a practical choice for anyone who needs vision correction without sacrificing Costa's optical performance.

Available in matte black, matte dark gunmetal, matte silver, and black finishes with a range of 580P mirror and solid lens colors, the Turret adapts to your style and the conditions you face. Whether you're logging long days on the boat or just need reliable sun protection for everyday outdoor life, these frames deliver comfort you can wear from dawn to dusk.

Happy with my purchase! Glasses look great!

Easy to order and had a good selection. It did take a long time to ship them and they only shipped after I had to send an email asking about my order. That is my only complaint. If I didn’t ask about my order how long would it have been? Once I received, the glasses were great. Exactly what I ordered and in perfect condition. I would order again in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Costa Turret 6009 sunglasses prescription-ready?

Yes, the Turret 6009 is fully prescription-compatible. The titanium frame can accommodate prescriptions where the sphere and cylinder combined do not exceed +3.00 to -5.00, and cylinder does not exceed -3.00. This makes them suitable for most common prescriptions while maintaining Costa's 580P polarized lens technology.

What is Costa 580P lens technology and how does it work?

Costa 580P lenses use multipatented technology that selectively filters yellow light at 580 nanometers on the visible spectrum, allowing more reds, greens, and blues to reach your eyes. This enhances color saturation, contrast, and definition. The polycarbonate lenses are impact-resistant, provide 100% UV protection, absorb harmful HEV blue light, and feature C-Wall coating for scratch resistance and easy cleaning.

How much do the Costa Turret sunglasses weigh?

The Turret weighs just 9.47 grams, making it the smallest and lightest frame in Costa's metal collection. The titanium construction is approximately 40% lighter than standard metal alloy frames, which significantly reduces pressure on the nose and ears during extended wear—ideal for all-day fishing trips or outdoor activities.

What face size and shape does the Turret fit best?

The Turret is a medium-sized frame with a small lens front designed to fit those with slightly narrow heads. Costa describes it as having a "narrow" frame fit with universal adjustability thanks to the air-cushioned, fully adjustable nose pads. The 63mm lens width and low-profile rectangular shape work well for oval, heart, square, and round face shapes.

Are Costa Turret lenses polarized and do they have UV protection?

Yes, all Costa Turret sunglasses come with polarized 580P lenses as standard—Costa sells only polarized sunglasses. The lenses absorb 100% of UV light (both UVA and UVB) and also block high-energy visible (HEV) blue light, providing comprehensive protection against sun damage and reducing glare from water, sand, and other reflective surfaces.

What are the benefits of titanium frames compared to plastic frames?

Titanium frames like the Turret are significantly lighter, stronger, and more durable than plastic frames. They're corrosion-resistant (won't rust from saltwater or sweat), hypoallergenic (ideal for sensitive skin), and maintain their shape under stress. Customer reviews specifically note that titanium temples eliminate the "bouncing" that occurs with all-plastic frames, providing a more stable, comfortable fit during active use.

Costa Del Mar Turret vs. Helo vs. Rinconcito: Which Frame Is Right for You?

Choosing between Costa frames often comes down to fit, material, and budget. The Turret 6009 is Costa's lightest titanium frame at 9.47 grams, designed for medium-to-narrow faces who want the ultimate in lightweight durability. If you need a larger fit, the Helo 6006 offers the same titanium construction and 580P lenses in a large-fit frame with a modern rimless aesthetic—it weighs just 9.78 grams and works well for wider faces. Both the Turret and Helo are part of Costa's premium metal collection launched in 2019, engineered specifically for serious anglers and outdoor athletes.

For those on a tighter budget or who prefer eco-friendly materials, the Rinconcito 9016 delivers the same Costa 580P polarized lens technology in a bio-resin frame starting at $133.49. While it's heavier than the Turret and won't offer the same corrosion resistance or hypoallergenic properties, it's still a solid performer for freshwater fishing and everyday wear. Customer reviews note that titanium frames like the Turret eliminate the temple "bounce" that can occur with all-plastic frames during active use, making them worth the investment for long days on the water.

Our recommendation: If you have a narrow-to-medium face and spend serious time in saltwater environments, the Turret's titanium construction and 9.47-gram weight make it the best choice. Need a larger fit? Go with the Helo. Want to save money and don't need the absolute lightest frame? The Rinconcito is a great value with the same legendary Costa optics.
