DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Maui Jim AEKO MJ886 Sunglasses bring precision engineering and Hawaiian-inspired design to a modern rectangular aviator silhouette. Named after the Hawaiian word for eagle, the AEKO is built for those who demand clarity and performance from their eyewear.

PolarizedPlus2 Lens Technology

Every pair features Maui Jim's patented PolarizedPlus2 lens technology, which eliminates 99.9% of glare while blocking 100% of harmful UV rays. Unlike ordinary polarized sunglasses that simply darken your view, PolarizedPlus2 lenses use a proprietary blend of three rare earth elements to enhance red, green, and blue wavelengths. The result is richer color, sharper contrast, and crisp detail in any light condition. The MauiPure lens material delivers optics nearly as clear as glass at a fraction of the weight, with excellent scratch and shatter resistance.

Available in four lens options: Neutral Grey (highest light reduction for bright sun), HCL Bronze (warm tint for everyday use), Blue Hawaii (blue mirror for intense glare), and Hawaii Lava (enhanced contrast). Each lens includes anti-reflective coatings on the backside to eliminate bounce-back glare, plus oleophobic and hydrophobic treatments that repel water, oil, and fingerprints.

Titanium Frame Construction

The AEKO's thin titanium frame is remarkably lightweight yet durable. Titanium resists corrosion from saltwater and sweat, making these sunglasses ideal for coastal environments and active wear. The double-bridge design features precision temple tip cutouts that reduce weight without sacrificing strength, while adjustable silicone nose pads ensure a secure, comfortable fit across different face shapes. The rectangular silhouette (55mm lens width, 16mm bridge, 140mm temple) complements heart, round, oval, and oblong faces.

Prescription-Ready

The AEKO is available with prescription lenses through authorized Maui Jim optical retailers. Maui Jim's MauiPassport prescription process uses digital surfacing technology to maintain the full field of PolarizedPlus2 clarity across the entire lens, available in both single vision and progressive designs.

The best so far

The Clarity and the color combination is amazing. I like the fact that sometimes we need to take our glasses off in we need to see something brighter . .with AEKO you just have to look a little towards the lower part of the glass .. it's almost like a progressive for colors !!! Love it

What is PolarizedPlus2 lens technology in Maui Jim sunglasses?

PolarizedPlus2 is Maui Jim's patented lens technology that eliminates 99.9% of glare and blocks 100% of UV radiation. The lenses use a blend of three rare earth elements to enhance red, green, and blue light, delivering richer colors and sharper contrast than standard polarized lenses. Every lens also includes anti-reflective coatings, scratch resistance, and oleophobic treatments for easy cleaning.

What face shapes work best with the AEKO rectangular aviator frame?

The double bridge and adjustable silicone nose pads help customize the fit for different facial contours.

What is MauiPure lens material and how does it compare to glass?

Are titanium frames more durable than other materials?

Titanium naturally resists damage from saltwater, sweat, and everyday wear, making it ideal for coastal environments and active lifestyles. The material is also hypoallergenic and maintains its shape over time while remaining comfortable for extended wear.

Maui Jim AEKO vs. Baby Beach vs. Mavericks: Which Titanium Aviator Is Right for You?

If you're choosing between Maui Jim's titanium aviator sunglasses, you're already committed to exceptional lens quality and lightweight durability. The decision comes down to style preference and face shape compatibility.

The AEKO MJ886 stands out with its rectangular-aviator hybrid design and modern double bridge. The precision temple tip cutouts and squared-off lens shape give it a contemporary edge that works especially well for heart, round, and oval faces. It's the choice for those who want aviator DNA with a more architectural, modern aesthetic.

The Baby Beach MJ245 delivers the classic teardrop aviator silhouette that's been iconic since the style's inception. If you prefer traditional aviator proportions and a timeless look that never goes out of style, the Baby Beach is the safer, more conventional choice. It typically starts at a slightly lower price point while offering the same PolarizedPlus2 technology and titanium construction.

The Mavericks MJ264 is a fan-favorite that balances classic and contemporary. It's been a staple in Maui Jim's lineup for years and offers proven versatility across different face shapes and style preferences.

All three frames feature the same core benefits: pure titanium construction, adjustable nose pads, PolarizedPlus2 lenses with 99.9% glare elimination, and prescription availability. Your choice ultimately depends on whether you want the AEKO's modern rectangular edge, the Baby Beach's timeless teardrop, or the Mavericks' proven versatility.
