DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The PLASTICS II PLASMA eyeglasses deliver a classic rectangle frame design in durable acetate at an exceptional value. Available in versatile black, brown, and navy colorways, these full-rim frames feature a clean, professional look that works from the office to everyday wear.

Built for Comfort and Durability

Spring hinges set the PLASMA apart from basic budget frames. The built-in spring mechanism allows the temples to flex outward beyond the standard 90-degree angle, accommodating different head sizes while reducing stress on the frame. This flexibility means the glasses are less likely to break when you put them on or take them off—a real advantage if you wear your glasses all day. The 16mm bridge and choice of 51mm or 53mm lens widths ensure a comfortable fit for most face shapes.

Prescription-Ready Acetate Construction

These frames are made from cellulose acetate, a lightweight, hypoallergenic material that's more durable and flexible than standard plastic. Acetate holds color well, resists pressure better than other frame materials, and can be easily adjusted by an optician for a custom fit. The full-rim design provides maximum stability for your prescription lenses, making the PLASMA suitable for stronger prescriptions where the frame edge helps conceal lens thickness. Rectangle frames like these add angular definition to round or oval faces, creating a balanced, professional appearance.

The PLASTICS II PLASMA is prescription-ready and compatible with single-vision, progressive, and specialty lenses. Modern Optical backs these frames with a one-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects.

Frames just like I wanted and prescription lenses correct

I wanted some glasses just like I've had for a very long time. These are them Modern Plastic II PLASMA. Prescription Polycarbonate are great and not too thick for my rather bad eyesight. It took 21 days from NY to NM. It was also ordered on a holiday weekend so that probably delayed processing some. I am very satisfied with the results. I will never buy another pair of classes at the eye doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these eyeglasses prescription-ready?

Yes, the PLASTICS II PLASMA frames are fully prescription-ready and compatible with all lens types including single-vision, progressive, bifocal, and specialty lenses. The full-rim acetate construction provides excellent stability for prescription lenses of varying strengths.

What are the benefits of spring hinges on eyeglasses?

Spring hinges allow the temples to flex outward beyond the normal position, providing a more comfortable fit and reducing the risk of breakage. The flexible mechanism accommodates different head sizes and reduces stress on the frame when putting glasses on or taking them off, making them more durable than standard hinges.

What face shapes work best with rectangle eyeglasses?

Rectangle frames are ideal for round and oval face shapes. The angular lines add definition and structure to softer facial features, creating a balanced, professional look. The straight lines and sharp corners of rectangle frames complement rounded jawlines particularly well.

What sizes are available for the PLASMA frames?

The PLASMA is available in two sizes: 51-16-140 (51mm lens width, 16mm bridge, 140mm temple length) and 53-16-145 (53mm lens width, 16mm bridge, 145mm temple length). Both sizes feature the same 16mm bridge width and are designed for adult unisex fit.

What is acetate and why is it used for eyeglass frames?

Acetate (cellulose acetate) is a plant-based, hypoallergenic material that's more durable and flexible than standard plastic. It's lightweight, comfortable for all-day wear, holds vibrant colors well, and can be easily adjusted for a custom fit. Acetate frames are also more resistant to pressure and designed for long-term durability.

Does this frame come with a warranty?

Yes, Modern Plastics II eyewear is backed by a one-year manufacturer's warranty from Modern Optical that covers manufacturing defects for the frame. The warranty does not cover damage from accidents or normal wear and tear.

PLASTICS II PLASMA vs. Similar Budget Eyeglasses

Shopping for affordable prescription eyeglasses? The PLASTICS II PLASMA competes directly with other models in the Modern Optical PLASTICS II collection and budget-friendly alternatives. Here's how they compare.

PLASMA vs. PLASTICS II LOYAL

Both frames share the same price point (around $30) and feature acetate construction with spring hinges. The key difference is frame shape—the PLASMA offers a classic rectangle design that's ideal for round and oval faces, while the LOYAL may feature a different silhouette. If you prefer the angular definition of rectangle frames for a professional look, the PLASMA is the better choice. Both offer the same quality construction and one-year warranty from Modern Optical.

PLASMA vs. PLASTICS II URBAN

The URBAN is another PLASTICS II collection frame at an identical $30.29 price point. Like the PLASMA, it's built from durable acetate and designed as a value-focused option. The decision comes down to frame style preference—if you specifically want rectangle frames for their face-flattering angular lines and professional appearance, the PLASMA delivers that classic shape. Both frames offer the same quality standards and are backed by Modern Optical's warranty.

PLASMA vs. Gallery PONCE

The Gallery PONCE eyeglasses are priced at $44.71, making them about $14 more expensive than the PLASMA. While still budget-friendly, the PONCE represents a different brand with potentially different styling. The PLASMA's advantage is its lower price point combined with spring hinges—a feature that enhances durability and comfort. For shoppers prioritizing maximum value and proven spring hinge technology, the PLASMA offers more features for less money.

Bottom line: The PLASTICS II PLASMA stands out in the budget eyeglass category for combining spring hinge durability, classic rectangle styling, and quality acetate construction at just over $30. It's an excellent choice for anyone seeking prescription-ready frames that balance affordability with practical features like flexible temples and a professional appearance.
