DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Ray-Ban RB3449 sunglasses bring a fresh, semi-rimless take on the brand's legendary aviator heritage. Where the classic RB3025 Aviator debuted in 1937 for U.S. pilots, the RB3449 strips away the bottom rim for a lighter, more contemporary look that still delivers that unmistakable teardrop silhouette. The result is a pilot frame that feels modern without abandoning the DNA that made aviators iconic in the first place.

Lightweight Metal Construction

Built from durable stainless steel, the RB3449 features a double-bridge design and darted metal grommets that secure the lenses without a full rim. The flat-edged metal temples finish with plastic end tips for comfort during all-day wear. Adjustable nose pads let you dial in a custom fit, and the semi-rimless construction shaves weight compared to traditional full-rim aviators—you get the coverage and UV protection without the heft.

Prescription-Ready & Versatile Lens Options

These frames are fully prescription-ready, accepting single-vision and progressive lenses. The 59mm lens width, 51mm lens height, 14mm bridge, and 135mm temples deliver standard coverage that works well for oval, square, and heart-shaped faces. Available in seven color combinations—from classic gold with brown gradient to silver with mirror finishes—the RB3449 offers 100% UV protection across all lens options. Whether you need prescription sun lenses or want to keep the original tints, the semi-rimless design accommodates both.

The RB3449 occupies a sweet spot for anyone who wants aviator style with a bit less visual weight. It's not as bold as the full-rim RB3025, but it's more distinctive than fully rimless designs—a modern middle ground that pairs equally well with tailored looks or casual weekend wear.

Refund or Replacement

Since receiving my glasses I have worn them a total of twice because on the 2nd day the nose piece fell off. I have since emailed about this issue and haven’t heard from anyone to discuss this problem..I would like a replacement pair and a return envelope to send other pair back without shipping cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Ray-Ban RB3449 sunglasses prescription-ready?

Yes, the RB3449 frames are fully prescription-ready and compatible with single-vision and progressive lenses. Ray-Ban's official site confirms prescription availability for this model, and the semi-rimless design accommodates a wide range of prescription strengths. You can add prescription sun lenses during checkout.

What face shapes work best with the RB3449?

The RB3449's pilot shape and 59mm lens width suit oval, square, and heart-shaped faces particularly well. The adjustable nose pads and 14mm bridge allow for a customized fit across a range of face widths. The teardrop lens shape helps soften angular features on square faces while complementing the balanced proportions of oval faces.

How does the semi-rimless design compare to full-rim aviators?

The semi-rimless RB3449 is noticeably lighter than full-rim aviators like the RB3025, thanks to the absence of a bottom frame. However, the exposed lower lens edge means slightly less protection from the elements and requires more careful handling. The trade-off is a sleeker, more modern aesthetic with reduced weight for all-day comfort.

What are the measurements of the Ray-Ban RB3449?

The RB3449 comes in one size: 59mm lens width, 51mm lens height, 14mm bridge width, and 135mm temple length. This is considered a standard fit that works for medium to large faces. The adjustable nose pads help fine-tune the fit for different nose shapes and bridge widths.

Do the RB3449 sunglasses provide UV protection?

Yes, all Ray-Ban RB3449 lenses provide 100% UVA and UVB protection, regardless of lens color or mirror finish. The lenses are rated category 3N, suitable for bright sunlight conditions. This UV protection is built into the lens material itself, not just a coating.

What's the difference between the RB3449 and the classic RB3025 Aviator?

The RB3449 is a semi-rimless update of the classic RB3025 Aviator. While both share the iconic pilot teardrop shape and double-bridge design, the RB3449 removes the bottom rim and uses metal grommets to hold the lenses. This makes the RB3449 lighter and more modern-looking, while the RB3025 offers more traditional full-rim protection and a bolder presence.

Ray-Ban RB3449 vs. Classic Aviators: Which Semi-Rimless Style Is Right for You?

The Ray-Ban RB3449 occupies a unique position in the aviator family—it's lighter and more contemporary than the classic RB3025, but more traditional than the fully rimless Blaze Aviator RB3584N. If you're deciding between these iconic styles, here's what matters.

RB3449 vs. RB3025 Aviator Large Metal

The RB3025 Aviator Large Metal is the 1937 original—the full-rim design that defined the category. It offers complete lens protection, a bold traditional look, and three size options (55mm, 58mm, 62mm). The RB3449 takes that same teardrop shape and double-bridge design but removes the bottom rim, using metal grommets instead. The result? The RB3449 is noticeably lighter and has a sleeker, more modern profile, but the exposed lower lens requires slightly more careful handling. If you want maximum durability and the most iconic aviator presence, the RB3025 wins. If you prefer reduced weight and a contemporary edge, the RB3449 delivers.

RB3449 vs. RB3584N Blaze Aviator

The RB3584N Blaze Aviator goes even further, eliminating the frame entirely in favor of flat, one-piece mirrored lenses. It's the most futuristic of the three, with an ultra-minimal aesthetic that turns heads. The RB3449 sits between the Blaze and the classic RB3025: it retains the double-bridge and adjustable nose pads (which the Blaze often lacks), but still sheds weight compared to the full-rim original. If you want aviator DNA with a modern twist but aren't ready for the Blaze's bold, frameless look, the RB3449 is the sweet spot.

Our Recommendation

Choose the RB3449 if you want a lighter, more refined aviator that still feels like a Ray-Ban classic. It's ideal for all-day wear, prescription compatibility, and a look that works equally well in the office or on the weekend. The semi-rimless design gives you modern style without sacrificing the adjustability and fit that make aviators so versatile.
