The Smith 4D MAG S Snow Goggles deliver Smith's most advanced goggle technology in a frame designed specifically for smaller faces. Built around the groundbreaking BirdsEye Vision lens design, these goggles offer a 25% increase in field of view compared to Smith's I/O MAG—giving you unprecedented peripheral awareness and downward visibility to read terrain, spot obstacles, and navigate technical lines with confidence.
BirdsEye Vision: See More of the Mountain
What sets the 4D MAG S apart is the unique spherical lens that curves both horizontally and downward beneath your eye line. This innovative shape lets you see moguls, changes in terrain, and your boot buckles without tilting your head back—a genuine advantage when you're accessing jacket pockets on the lift or checking your line mid-run. The spherical design also reduces optical distortion compared to cylindrical lenses, delivering edge-to-edge clarity that helps you pick out subtle details in flat light and variable conditions.
ChromaPop Lens Technology
Every 4D MAG S ships with two ChromaPop lenses—one optimized for bright light and a bonus low-light lens for stormy days or dawn patrol. ChromaPop filters the specific wavelengths where blue/green and green/red light overlap, eliminating the color confusion your eyes naturally experience. The result is greater definition, more natural color, and the ability to distinguish snow texture and terrain features that other goggles wash out. Smith's Tapered Lens Technology (TLT) progressively thins the lens from center to edge, correcting the distortion that occurs when light bends through aggressively curved optics. The carbonic-X outer lens is impact-resistant, while the 5X anti-fog inner coating provides five times the moisture absorption of standard treatments.
MAG Lens-Change System
The MAG system uses eight magnetic contact points and dual side-mounted locking levers to make lens swaps fast and secure. Push the lever on each side of the frame, let the magnets release, align the new lens (the magnets guide it into position), and lock it down. The whole process takes seconds, even with gloves on, and the low-profile lever placement means you can swap lenses while the goggles are still on your helmet.
Fit & Comfort for Smaller Faces
The 4D MAG S is scaled down from the medium-fit 4D MAG to accommodate smaller face shapes without compromising on features. Three-layer DriWix foam wicks moisture away from your skin, the flexible frame contours to your face to eliminate pressure points and gaps, and the silicone-backed strap grips your helmet securely. The QuickFit strap adjustment system lets you dial in tension quickly, and AirEvac ventilation channels hot air up and out through compatible Smith helmets to keep your view fog-free. The goggles are also available in a Low Bridge Fit variant for faces with lower nose bridges or high cheekbones.
The 4D MAG S includes a hard-shell case for travel, a Gogglesoc lens protector, and a microfiber storage bag. With 100% UV protection and a design that integrates seamlessly with Smith helmets, these goggles are built for all-conditions riding—from bluebird days to low-visibility storms.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the 4D MAG S and the standard 4D MAG?
The 4D MAG S is a small-fit version designed for smaller faces, while the standard 4D MAG has a medium/large fit. Both goggles feature the same BirdsEye Vision technology, ChromaPop lenses, and MAG magnetic lens-change system. The 'S' model is scaled down in frame size but delivers the same 25% increase in field of view and premium optical performance.
How does the MAG lens-change system work on the 4D MAG S?
The MAG system uses eight magnetic contact points and dual locking levers located on the sides of the frame. To change lenses, push the lever on each side to release the locks, let the magnets disengage, then align the new lens—the magnets automatically guide it into position. Close the levers to lock it securely. The process takes just seconds and can be done with gloves on.
What is BirdsEye Vision technology?
BirdsEye Vision is Smith's proprietary lens design that curves both horizontally and downward beneath the eye line, increasing the overall field of view by 25% compared to the I/O MAG. This unique curvature provides exceptional downward and peripheral visibility, making it easier to see terrain changes, boot buckles, and jacket pockets without tilting your head back.
What lenses are included with the 4D MAG S goggles?
Each 4D MAG S comes with two ChromaPop lenses: a bright-light lens (installed) and a bonus low-light lens for overcast or stormy conditions. ChromaPop technology filters specific wavelengths to enhance color contrast and definition, helping you see terrain details more clearly in all conditions. Additional replacement lenses in various tints are available separately.
Are the 4D MAG S goggles compatible with helmets?
Yes, the 4D MAG S goggles are designed for ultimate integration with Smith helmets, featuring AirEvac ventilation that channels warm air from the goggles up through the helmet vents for fog-free performance. The flexible frame, silicone-backed strap, and QuickFit adjustment system ensure a secure, comfortable fit with most ski and snowboard helmets, not just Smith models.
How do I know if I need the standard 4D MAG S or the Low Bridge Fit version?
Choose the Low Bridge Fit if you have a lower nose bridge, high cheekbones, or typically experience a gap between your nose and the goggle foam. The Low Bridge Fit features extra foam padding at the nose bridge to create a better seal. If standard goggles fit you well, the regular 4D MAG S will work perfectly. Both versions offer the same optical performance and features.

Smith 4D MAG S vs. Other Smith Goggles: Which Should You Choose?
The Smith 4D MAG S sits at the top of Smith's small-fit goggle lineup, but it's not the only option. Here's how it compares to other popular models in our catalog.
4D MAG S vs. Standard 4D MAG
The choice between these two comes down entirely to fit. The standard 4D MAG has a medium/large frame, while the 4D MAG S is scaled for smaller faces. Both deliver identical optical performance—the same BirdsEye Vision technology, ChromaPop lenses, MAG lens-change system, and 25% increase in field of view. If you've found that most goggles feel too large, create gaps at the nose, or sit awkwardly on your face, the 4D MAG S is your answer. If standard goggles fit you well, the medium/large 4D MAG will work perfectly.
4D MAG S vs. I/O MAG S
Both the 4D MAG S and the I/O MAG S are small-fit goggles with magnetic lens-change systems and ChromaPop optics, but the 4D MAG S offers a significant upgrade in field of view. The BirdsEye Vision lens design provides 25% more visibility—especially downward and in the periphery—compared to the I/O MAG S's standard spherical lens. This translates to better terrain awareness, easier access to pockets and gear, and a more immersive riding experience. The I/O MAG S costs $70-100 less and still delivers excellent performance, making it a solid choice if the expanded field of view isn't a priority. But if you want the widest possible view in a small-fit package, the 4D MAG S is worth the investment.
4D MAG S vs. I/O MAG (Medium Fit)
The I/O MAG is Smith's best-selling goggle and a proven performer, but it's designed for medium-sized faces. If you have a smaller face, the I/O MAG may feel oversized, create gaps, or lack the secure fit you need for aggressive riding. The 4D MAG S solves the fit issue while also upgrading the optics with BirdsEye Vision. You get a goggle that fits properly and offers superior field of view. The I/O MAG is more affordable and works well for riders with medium faces, but for smaller faces seeking the best possible visibility, the 4D MAG S is the clear winner.
Our Recommendation
If you have a smaller face and want the absolute best field of view, optical clarity, and lens-change convenience, the Smith 4D MAG S is the goggle to buy. It's the only small-fit option with BirdsEye Vision technology, and that 25% increase in visibility is immediately noticeable on the mountain. The I/O MAG S is an excellent alternative if budget is a concern, but the 4D MAG S's expanded view and premium features justify the price for serious riders who spend significant time on the slopes.
