The Smith Bobcat sunglasses deliver full-shield coverage and ChromaPop lens technology in a frame designed for small-to-medium faces. If you've found oversized performance sunglasses overwhelming, the Bobcat offers goggle-like protection without the bulk—6 grams lighter than the Wildcat at just 26 grams, with a 135mm lens width that fits where larger shields don't.
ChromaPop Technology: See More Detail
Smith's ChromaPop lenses filter overlapping wavelengths of light to enhance color, contrast, and definition. On the trail or in alpine bowls, that means sharper terrain definition and less eye fatigue. The technology separates colors that typically confuse the eye—blue from green, green from red—so details pop even in flat light or dense tree cover. All ChromaPop lenses provide 100% UVA/B/C protection, and the smudge- and moisture-resistant coatings keep your view clear when you're working hard.
Available lens options include ChromaPop mirrors for bright conditions and photochromic lenses that shift from 20% to 85% visible light transmission, adapting automatically from dawn patrol to full sun. Every pair includes a bonus clear lens for low-light or night riding.
Built for Smaller Faces, Designed for Performance
The Bobcat uses Smith's Evolve bio-based frame material (53% bio-based content) in a 5-base curve design that balances coverage with a flatter, less aggressive wrap than typical 8-base sport glasses. Two-position adjustable Megol nose pads and Megol temple grips become tackier with moisture, so the frames stay put through rough descents and long gravel grinds. AutoLock hinges allow easy one-handed on-and-off operation.
The interchangeable lens system uses a flexible frame design—lenses snap in and out quickly once you learn the attachment points. Venting reduces fogging during hard efforts. At 130mm temple length, the Bobcat accommodates helmet compatibility without pressure points, and the shield design keeps dust, mud, and debris out of your eyes on mixed-terrain rides.
"I LOVE the Bobcats since they are the only sporty sunglass that fits small faces." — Smith Optics customer review
Prescription-Ready Performance
The Bobcat is compatible with Smith's ODS5 prescription adapter, a snap-in insert that holds your Rx lenses behind the outer ChromaPop shield without affecting fit or field of view. The adapter works with all ChromaPop lens options, so you get prescription performance eyewear with full color-enhancing technology.
From enduro trail riding to gravel adventure, backcountry ski touring to road marathons, the Smith Bobcat bridges the gap between sunglasses and goggles—full coverage, easy airflow, and a fit that works for riders who've been left out of the oversized-shield trend. Includes hard case and microfiber pouch.

The Smith Bobcats fit me great, they look good with my helmet and I posted my fastest time on the bike in years! Loved the price I was able to get on Designer Optics!
They’re a little dorky, but the quality is AMAZING. Life looks better with the glasses on. The Chromapop lenses really distinguish and accentuate colors—they are incredible. I wish the brow ridge wasn’t so high and that the lenses wrapped lower around my eyes, but what do I know about sunglasses design. The Bobcat is supposed to accommodate smaller faces, so if you’re looking for high coverage, a different model may be better. But I’m very happy with them.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size face do Smith Bobcat sunglasses fit?
The Smith Bobcat is designed for small-to-medium faces with a 135mm lens width and 59mm height. They're specifically built as a smaller alternative to the Wildcat (140mm width), making them popular among women and riders who find typical oversized shields too large. The 130mm temple length and adjustable two-position nose pads help customize the fit.
Can I get prescription lenses for Smith Bobcat sunglasses?
Yes, the Smith Bobcat is compatible with the ODS5 prescription adapter, a snap-in insert that holds your prescription lenses behind the outer ChromaPop shield. The adapter maintains your full field of view and works with all ChromaPop lens options, allowing you to swap outer lenses for different light conditions without removing the prescription insert.
What's the difference between Smith Bobcat and Wildcat sunglasses?
The Bobcat is a smaller, lighter version of the Wildcat designed for small-to-medium faces. The Bobcat weighs 26 grams versus 32 grams for the Wildcat, with a 135mm lens width compared to 140mm. The Bobcat has slimmer arms and a continuous frame thickness, while the Wildcat offers a chunkier design for medium-to-large faces.
Do Smith Bobcat sunglasses come with extra lenses?
Yes, every Smith Bobcat purchase includes a bonus clear lens in addition to the installed ChromaPop or photochromic lens. The package also includes a hard case with foam slots for both lenses and a microfiber pouch. Lenses are interchangeable and snap in quickly thanks to the flexible frame design.
What is ChromaPop lens technology in Smith sunglasses?
ChromaPop is Smith's proprietary lens technology that filters overlapping wavelengths of light to enhance color, contrast, and definition. It separates colors that typically confuse the eye (blue/green and green/red overlap), reducing eye fatigue and making terrain details more visible. All ChromaPop lenses provide 100% UVA/B/C protection with smudge- and moisture-resistant coatings.
Are Smith Bobcat sunglasses good for mountain biking and cycling?
Yes, the Bobcat is designed specifically for cycling, mountain biking, and gravel riding. The shield design provides goggle-like coverage to keep dust and debris out, while venting reduces fogging. The lightweight 26-gram frame, Megol no-slip grips, and 130mm temples work well with helmets. The 5-base curve offers good coverage without excessive wrap, and interchangeable lenses adapt to varying light conditions on long rides.

Smith Bobcat vs Wildcat: Which Shield Sunglass Fits You?
The Smith Bobcat and Wildcat share the same DNA—full-shield coverage, ChromaPop lenses, interchangeable lens systems, and Evolve bio-based frames. The difference comes down to size and weight.
The Bobcat is built for small-to-medium faces with a 135mm lens width and 26-gram weight. The Wildcat offers a 140mm width and 32-gram weight for medium-to-large faces. Side by side, the Bobcat has slimmer arms and a continuous frame thickness across the top, while the Wildcat features chunkier, deeper arms for a more aggressive look.
Reviews consistently note that the Bobcat fits women and smaller-faced riders better, while the Wildcat suits those who need maximum coverage. If oversized shields typically overwhelm your face, the Bobcat delivers the same performance in a more proportional package. Both models include a bonus clear lens, hard case, and microfiber pouch, and both are compatible with Smith's ODS5 prescription adapter.
Bobcat vs Shift MAG: Simplicity or Speed?
The Smith Shift MAG uses magnetic lens-change technology for the fastest swaps in the Smith lineup. The Bobcat uses a traditional flexible-frame system that's quick once you learn the attachment points but doesn't match the Shift MAG's instant magnetic release.
The Bobcat costs less and weighs less, making it a strong choice for riders who don't need to swap lenses mid-ride. Both are compatible with the ODS5 prescription adapter and offer ChromaPop lens options. If you frequently ride in rapidly changing light conditions and want the fastest lens changes possible, the Shift MAG justifies its higher price. If you set your lens for the day and go, the Bobcat delivers the same optical performance at a better value.
