DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The SpyOptic 670000 Rebar ANSI Sunglasses deliver serious protection without sacrificing style. Built for those who demand both safety and performance, these rectangular wrap sunglasses carry an ANSI Z87.2+ certification for lens retention and high-mass impact resistance—tested to withstand a 1/4 inch steel ball fired at 150 feet per second and a 1.1 pound weight dropped from 50 inches. That makes them equally at home on the job site, the fishing boat, or the trail.

Happy Lens Technology: See Better, Feel Better

What sets the Rebar apart is SPY's Happy Lens technology. Unlike standard tinted lenses that block all blue light, Happy Lenses allow beneficial long-wave blue light (450-500nm wavelength) to pass through while filtering harmful UV rays and glare. This specific light spectrum can positively affect mood and alertness. The result is enhanced color and contrast that makes greens look greener and details sharper—a real advantage whether you're reading terrain on a hike or spotting structure while fishing.

Available with Trident polarization on select variants, these lenses eliminate over 99% of surface glare. The polarized film is layered and sealed within the lens during manufacturing, not glued to the surface, so it won't scratch, delaminate, or haze over time. ARC (Accurate Radius Curvature) polycarbonate lenses follow the natural curve of your eye, reducing distortion and eyestrain during extended wear.

Grilamid Frame Built to Last

The frame is constructed from Grilamid, a lightweight nylon-based polymer that's virtually indestructible. It stays flexible even in temperature extremes and can handle the kind of abuse that would snap cheaper frames. Rubberized nose pads and temple tips ensure a secure, no-slip fit even when you're sweating, while snap pin hinges with cam motion pop the temples into place with satisfying precision. The Scoop ventilation system increases airflow to reduce fogging—a feature you'll appreciate when moving between air-conditioned trucks and hot outdoor work environments.

The Rebar is available in nine color options, including matte black, matte olive, matte sand, and translucent gunmetal frames paired with Happy Gray Green, Happy Bronze, Happy Boost, and Spectra mirror lenses. The 53mm lens width suits medium to large faces, while the 60mm variant offers even more coverage. Photochromic lenses are available as a separate option. All variants provide 100% UV protection to reduce eye fatigue and long-term sun damage.

The Rebar ANSI is prescription-ready and delivers Z87.2+ safety compliance without the industrial look.

Spy Optics not for riding motorbikes

Ordering and delivery process was very smooth, no problems there. The shades themselves are the worst I’ve ever owned. I tried using them for riding my motorcycle. Although the Spy wrap around designed Rebars have certified ANSI lenses, the frame has small holes on either side allowing air to come through directly to your eyes. These shades may look cool but don’t go too fast on any open air vehicle because your eyes will water.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the SpyOptic 670000 Rebar sunglasses ANSI safety rated?

Yes, all colorways of the SpyOptic 670000 Rebar are ANSI Z87.2+ certified for lens retention and high-mass impact resistance. This means they're tested to withstand a 1/4 inch steel ball fired at 150 feet per second and a 1.1 pound weight dropped from 50 inches, making them suitable for workplace safety use as well as outdoor activities.

What is SPY Happy Lens technology and how does it work?

SPY Happy Lens technology allows beneficial long-wave blue light (450-500nm wavelength) to pass through while blocking 100% of harmful UVA, UVB, and UVC rays. This specific blue light spectrum has been shown in independent studies to positively affect mood and alertness. The lenses also enhance color and contrast for improved visual clarity, making colors appear more vivid and details sharper.

Can I get prescription lenses in the SpyOptic Rebar ANSI sunglasses?

Yes, the SpyOptic 670000 Rebar ANSI sunglasses are prescription-ready. You can have prescription lenses installed while maintaining the ANSI Z87.2+ safety rating. Our licensed opticians can customize these frames with your specific prescription needs, including single vision, progressive, or polarized prescription lenses.

What is Grilamid and why is it used for these frames?

Grilamid is a lightweight, nylon-based polymer composite that's virtually indestructible. It's extremely durable, flexible even in temperature extremes, and resistant to snapping and bending. This makes it ideal for sunglasses that need to withstand heavy use, whether on a job site, during outdoor sports, or in demanding environments. The material keeps the frames lightweight for all-day comfort while providing exceptional strength.

What's the difference between Happy Lens and Happy Boost lenses?

Happy Boost is an evolution of the original Happy Lens technology. SPY used AI to test over 10 million color and tint combinations to maximize color contrast by up to 30% while maintaining optimal white balance. Happy Boost lenses feature enhanced color rendering, a premium polarizer that blocks over 99% of glare, and the same mood-boosting long-wave blue light transmission as standard Happy Lenses, but with even more vivid color enhancement.

What size are the SpyOptic 670000 Rebar sunglasses?

The SpyOptic 670000 Rebar ANSI sunglasses come in two sizes: the standard version with 53mm lens width, 19mm bridge, and 139mm temple length (53-19-139), and a larger 60mm photochromic variant. The rectangular wrap design provides medium to large fit with excellent coverage. The 8-base wrap curvature offers peripheral protection while the rubberized nose pads and temple tips ensure a secure, comfortable fit.

SpyOptic Rebar ANSI vs. Cyrus vs. Discord: Which SPY Frame Is Right for You?

All three models feature SPY's signature Grilamid frames and Happy Lens technology, but they serve different needs. Here's how to choose:

Choose the Rebar ANSI (670000) if you need ANSI Z87.2+ safety certification for workplace use, high-impact protection for outdoor activities, or the most rugged construction SPY offers. The Scoop ventilation system and rubberized contact points make it ideal for sweaty work environments, fishing, or any situation where you need sunglasses that can take serious abuse. The rectangular wrap design provides excellent coverage and peripheral protection. Price: $95-$135.

Choose the Cyrus (673180) if you want bold, attention-grabbing style without needing safety certification. The ultra-thick sides and commanding square shape make a statement, and you'll save $20-30 compared to the Rebar. It's perfect for casual wear, driving, and everyday activities where impact resistance isn't a priority. The 58mm lens width offers a slightly different fit than the Rebar's 53mm. Price: $73-$124.

Choose the Discord (673119) if you're looking for the most affordable entry into SPY's Happy Lens technology. It offers the same Grilamid durability and is available with Happy Boost lenses, but without the safety rating or premium features of the Rebar. It's a solid choice for recreational use, casual outdoor activities, and everyday sun protection. Price: $67-$124.

The bottom line: if you work in construction, spend time on the water dodging hooks, or simply want the toughest sunglasses SPY makes, the Rebar ANSI justifies its price with genuine safety certification and maximum durability. If you're after the SPY look and lens tech for lifestyle use, the Cyrus or Discord deliver excellent value.
